Year Two Class Curriculum
Class Teacher: Mrs Gibbs
Year 2 Autumn 2 2017
In English this half term, we will be learning about newspaper reports. We will be identifying the features, fixing muddled up reports, researching our topic and we will use the information gathered to write our own newspaper reports. To make our writing more interesting, we will be continuing to learn all about subordinating and coordinating conjunctions.
Not only that, we will be working hard to improve our written comprehension skills.
In Maths, we will be working on finding fractions of shapes and numbers. We will do this by dividing and also sharing objects.
We will also be working on our shape skills; learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. In addition to this, we will be focussing on symmetry in patterns and shapes.
Our new topic this half term is the ‘Great Fire of London’. We will be learning all about this famous event in history, but also about London itself. In addition to this, we will be creating artwork based around the topic and perhaps we will even have a go at baking our own bread-just like Thomas Farriner!
Perhaps you would like to play this game at home:
Children will be introduced to team games and learn the importance of working together. Children will be able to apply the skills they have previously learnt in game situations. The half term will end with an inter-house competition.
Please don’t forget to help your child learn their lines for this year’s Nativity. We appreciate all the help!
Well done to all of the children who have been reading regularly at home. We have seen a huge improvement and as a result we are moving children up through the stages quicker! Keep it up!
